An Author Visit with Nikesh Shukla!
This week our Year 10 students had a really heartfelt visit from celebrated writer Nikesh Shukla.
Nikesh discussed his various work including his hit YA thriller, Run, Riot and much more.
He also discussed his love of writing and how we don't see enough British writers from minority backgrounds being published.
He discussed racism in the UK, and how, quoting Toni Morrison, that racism is a distraction that keeps minority writers from doing their work. These writers have to constantly prove that they have the right to exist instead of writing the work that they want to unleash to the world.
It was a very engaging discussion and the feedback from the students and staff present has been extremely positive.
Nikesh was then gracious enough to sit down for an episode of Booklings Chat, our student led podcast which is always very thoughtful and fun.
He also signed our famous Bowie "READ" poster!
We look forward to seeing Nikesh again in June when his new novel is published!
