A Skype visit with Jewell Parker Rhodes!
As part of the celebrations for our Bookling Book Award shortlist, Year 7 students recently Skyped with celebrated Jewell Parker Rhodes.
Jewell is the author of Ghost Boys which follows the short life of Jerome, a 12 year old who is murdered by police while playing with a toy gun.
Jewell discussed her inspiration for the novel, her own experiences with racism growing up in America and much more.
Her talk was very inspiring and uplifting, Jewell has a deep understanding of social injustices in her country and explained them to the students in a very engaging and thoughtful way.
I really appreciate her Skyping with us from California where it wasn't even 6:00 am yet!
