Celebrating the Carnegie Awards at the Sutton Central Library!

This week members of our book club, known as the Booklings, had a fantastic afternoon at the Sutton Central Library where we meet with book club members from Carshalton High School for Girls.

We were there to hear the announcement of the winner of the Carnegie Medal and Sam, librarian at CHSFG built up the excitement and tension around a book award that only a librarian could do!

Before the announcement, we discussed all of the books that had been shortlisted, debated each one and then voted on the ones we thought were going to win.

My instincts were correct as the big winner this year was Ruta Sepetys' WWII novel Salt to the Sea!

Our book club was very fortunate to have spoken to Ruta Sepetys as part of our Twitter chat series last month so they were very excited that she had won.

When the ceremony was over we walked to the local Waterstones to browse the collection and cool off from Britain's scorching heat wave.

A great day was had by all and I am very excited to continue our book club partnership with Carshalton next year!
