My Top 10 Books of 2015

I'm excited to share my favourite books from 2015. These are not in any particular order, you can check out all of the books I read this year on my Goodreads page. Please add me as a friend, I'm always looking for new books to read and recommend!

A gut-wrenching story about a teen suicide pact. It's the most realistic young adult novel I've read this year.

The only way I can describe The Scorpion Rules is that it's the Joy Division of dystopian novels. It takes the bombastic, in-your-face tropes laid down by the Hunger Games and internalizes them, much like JD did with punk rock. This is a book that stayed with me a long time after reading it. 

A heavily medicated teen decides to run away from her dad and stepmother to find her real mother. It's a road novel that's as memorable as it is heartbreaking. 

The sequel to the thrilling sic-fi novel Steelheart, Firefight continues the story of the Reckoners, a rag-tag group of rebels struggling to eliminate the Epics - superheroes who are bent on Earth's destruction. 

Jon Ronson is one of my favourite investigative writers, he can make almost anything interesting in my opinion. In So You've Been Publicly Shamed, Ronson travels the world meeting people that have been shamed through social media. Many of these people have had their lives ruined by misinterpreted jokes and mistakes that spread like viruses through the veins of Twitter, Facebook and other platforms. It's a frightening glimpse into the dangers of being connected and a warning call for today's youth.

Elizabeth Grey hunts witches for a living. That is until she herself is accused of being a witch and must align herself with the very people that she's supposed to be hunting if she wants to survive. A fast-paced, swords & sorcery romp that you'll fly through and ask for more. 

Simon is sixteen an in the closet until he leaves his emails open and they fall into the wrong hands. He has to find out who's blackmailing him unless he wants his life ruined. A funny, warm and realistic tale of teen angst and heartbreak. 

Kamala Khan continues her adventures as the new Ms. Marvel. Not your typical superhero, a cool new foray into the world of comics and superpowers. 

This doesn't read like a non-fiction book, more like a mystery / thriller. Detailing the fateful voyage of the Lusitania and the U-Boat submarine captains that prowled the Atlantic during World War One, Dead Wake is easily one of the best historical novels of 2015. 

This series is so good it's disturbing. A space epic, a tragic love story, a comedy goldmine and an all-out intergalactic war rolled into one giant masterpiece. Check it out!
